What is a kappa demon?

Think of it as a grumpy teenage mutant ninja turtle. I's an anthropomorphic turtle-like creature that can speak. It lives in fresh water, according to Japanese myth, and will die if it's bowl-shaped head empties of water. It is a man-eater, but it will spare you so long as you provide an offering of a yam with your name written on it.
