Some examples of Filipino myths include the story of Malakas and Maganda, the creation myth about the first man and woman emerging from a bamboo stalk; the tale of Bernardo Carpio, a mythical hero who is said to be trapped under a mountain and causes earthquakes when he struggles to break free; and the legend of Maria Makiling, a fairy who dwells on Mount Makiling and is believed to protect the forest and its inhabitants.
