Pasadena, California, derived its name from a Native American Word meaning "valley" or "crown of the valley." The name was suggested in 1875 by a member of the local community, Dr. E. W. Smith, who was inspired by the beauty of the area. It was officially adopted when the city was incorporated in 1886. The name reflects both the region's landscape and its cultural heritage.
