Edmond Locard (1877-1966) working as an assistant to famed forensic pioneer Alexandre Lacassagne developed what is now called the Locard Exchange Principle.

Essentially, it states that when there are two items, there will be an exchange between these two items. Especially between a person and an object or two people.
