How was Lake Murray made?

Lake Murray was created in the 1930s as a result of the construction of the Murray Dam on the Saluda River in South Carolina. The dam was built to provide hydroelectric power, flood control, and water supply. As the dam was completed, the rising waters formed the lake, which now spans approximately 50 square miles. Today, Lake Murray serves as a popular recreational area, supporting activities such as fishing, boating, and swimming.
