What kind of writing was the first love of Edgar Allan Poe?

The first known rhyme written by Edgar Allan Poe was written in late 1824, and it went like this:

"Last night, with many cares & toils oppres'd,

Weary, I laid me on a couch to rest -."

It was never published in Poe's lifetime either alone or within another poem.
