Some electrical utilities allow solar power owners with surplus energy to connect to the electrical grid, thus distributing their surplus across the main power supply, preventing it from being wasted (but not storing it). This process reverses the electric meter to which it is attached, thus surplus energy produced can reduce conventional electrical costs.
