Why do so many sperm die before reaching the cervix?

In a normal ejaculation containing 200 million sperms, 90% are defective and can not conceive. Nature have to take chances or there will be no children so they send as many as possible since only one will be allowed into the egg. Many reaches the egg but can not come in.
