Why does black sambuca turn green?

Black sambuca turns green when diluted with water or ice because of the sugar content and the botanicals in the drink. The green color is a result of these components reacting with the alcohol in the sambuca, creating a new color. This change in color is a common phenomenon in some Alcoholic Beverages.
