What is the resolution for the story of the little prince?

I believe the title character dies after a snake bite- and the French Airman is rescued by the Coast Guard or something like that- thus he lives to tell the tale. Contrast I Dream of Jeannie- where Jeannie is safely Bottled up and has a new Home- at the Florida air base, eventually! Both come out- On Top!
