Generally speaking, they are hotel rooms that have a living room space and furniture separate from the sleeping room. Depending on the luxury level of the hotel concerned, the 'separate space' can evolve into a completely separate room, dining facilities and even include valet service. But the normal meaning is 'extra large room with separate living room space'.
