What are airplanes used for today?

Well, the total list of uses for airplanes is literaly endless. So I'll just name a few. The widest civilian use is simple transportation. Some organizations, like Civil Air Patrol (of wich I am a proud member) use aircraft for search and rescue. In the military, airplanes are used to drop bombs, attack ground instalations, provide fighter escort for bombers, observe enemy movements, and intercept incomig bombers.
