Simply raising an opponents bet is known as "coming over the top" For example. You are the Big Blind. This means you are the last person to act on the table. Lets say that the blinds are 5/10. You already have 10 in the pot since you are the big blind. The dealer who is sitting 2 two seats to you right attempts to steal position since no one bet prior by making a bet of 30. Depending on your cards, you may choose to bet over the top by raising the total bet greater than 30.
