Should you close a pool for the winter that has algae?

I wouldn't. Just lots of chlorine and keep the pump going full time, back-washing as necessary when the filter pressure increases by 10 PSI from the original "clean" reading. Make sure that the pH is around 7.2 and adjust as necessary. Pool Masters
