How can you identify a first edition 'Hardy Boys' book?

the first 11 books in the series have red cloth covers in the first edition and are printed by grosset and dunlap. if your books are complete with dust jackets you may refer to the list of titles on the front flap if your title is last on the list or not even present on the list you may have a first edition. if you do not have the dust jacket you may refer to lists in the back of the book if there are any although these are not always reliable, they can indicate an early printing or possible first. the list on the copyright page is unreliable as it stayed the same throughout many printings
