What made St. Francis of Assisi leave his family?

Francis received a revelation from God that he should work to rebuild his Church. Francis knew that he could not have two masters - God and Money. He decided to follow God and rejected the wealth of his father. He did not work with animals as his primary audience. He worked with people but loved all of nature, including animals.
