There are cough products that utilize a cough suppressant and an expectorant together. You can, but the efficacy of using both together has been debated by the medical community. Cough suppressants such as dextromethorphan is meant to be used for dry coughs. Cough expectorants such as guaifenesin are used for wet coughs to help you expel all of the phlegm and mucus out. Taking them together means you can use for either type of cough, but it should be considered what type of cough you have if you wish to take them separately.
