WHY COULDNT LUCY and SUSAN UNTIE THE ROPES ON ASIAN?

Lucy and Susan couldn't untie the ropes on Asian because they were tied too tightly or perhaps they lacked the proper tools or knowledge to untie them. It's also possible that Asian was resisting their attempts to be untied, complicating the situation further.
