A "D" mintmark means the coin was produced at the Denver branch mint.

Quarters minted at the main Mint in Philadelphia have a P (1980 and later) or no mint mark (1979 and earlier).

Circulating quarters up to 1954 minted at San Francisco and proofs (1968 to now) have an S mint mark.
