Can Allen Bradley Programmable Logic Controllers Be Traced If Stolen?

They all have a unique serial number on them. Allen Bradley can identify where they were manufactured and which distributor or end user actually purchased the PLC. But the unit can only be traced if the person that took it tried to sell it.
