According to Aristotle, the six elements of a tragedy are the following:
- Plot - it must be a complete story with a beginning, middle, and end; it must be "of a certain magnitude" (of sufficient seriousness and complexity)
- Character - they must be realistic, logical, and "true to life yet more beautiful."
- Thought - "where something is proved to be or not to be, or a maxim is enunciated."
- Diction - "the expression of the meaning in the Words."
- Song or melody - Greek tragedies were musical plays
- Spectacle - if you're talking about a play
