How can you stop a cat from stealing food off the table?

Cats are very conscious animals in what they do.

They are incredibly independent and this pose as your greatest challenge, because it will simply not listen to you. At least not for quite some time.

The main thing is to be very consistent about NEVER let your cat walk on tables, chairs or other high places indoor.

You may allow for ONE place like a Windowsill, but keep this as only ONE spot where the cat is allowed to be without being pushed down.

The cat will test your persistence and strength and most likely you will feel that it is totally ignoring you. This is just where you must be utterly persistent.

During this time, never leave food on any tables when you can not watch the cat at all times and show it down instantly if it tries.

You should also have ONE place where the cat feeds. After a while, if the cat is hungry, it will go to that one place and "miaow" for food if it is hungry.

One reason for a cat to "disobey" is perhaps that it is very very hungry. There are certain conditions that can cause this, like worms, and if so, it is important to "de-worm" the cat. It can be done with simple meds bought from the vet or maybe even the pharmacies.
