Fabio Capello, England manager revealed in an interview with the broadcaster ITV that he considers Beckham, 35, to be "a little bit old" and not part of his plans for the Euro 2012 qualifiers.

Beckham was not informed of this decision until at least 48 hours after the interview was recorded.

Capello states the reason for his decision to retire Beckham is based on the need to change the team's lineup to include younger players and build a team for the future.
