John White, the English artist and explorer, is best known for his involvement in the Roanoke Colony in the late 16th century. He made a total of three voyages to the New World: the first in 1585 as part of Sir Walter Raleigh's expedition, the second in 1587 to establish a colony, and the third in 1590 to find the lost colonists. His final voyage was significant for its documentation of the region and its Indigenous peoples.
