How much sun does a Persian shield plant need?

We had a Persian Shield last year that did so beautifully that we can't wait to put more in this year. The spot we had it in gets full sun in the early morning but is in the full shade of the house by late morning. So it's pretty much full shade. It is also worthy to note that it gets very hot and we experience drought conditions here in central NC. Also we have extremely poor clay soil. Still this plant did beautifully.
