Why do i hear valve tapping when engine is cold?

Incorrect weight oil. Incorrect size or cheap filter. Partially clogged oil galleys. Install the correct weight oil as listed in your owner's manual, and install a quality filter. If you have a GM vehicle install an AC/Delco filter. Other's use Purolator or Wix filter.
