No, hunting pigs for meat simply provided Jack with an excuse to kill pigs. Jack had only one real interest and that was in himself. Jack saw himself as superior to every and everything else. He saw it as his right to impose his will on others, and wielding the power over life and death, whether of a pig or another boy, was the ultimate expression of his superiority.
