he closed it down becuase people wernt following the rules. the rules were to live as poor and pious people, to not get married, and to not spend money for ur own pleasure. he sent a man called oliver cromwell to spy on the owners of the monastries and if they get caught breaking these rules then the monostry would be shut down. he also done this to show people how much power he had. hope you like this response, it is 100% right and if you dont think this them you can check on the internet.
