Do hardy annuals come back every year?

Hardy annuals typically complete their life cycle within a single growing season, germinating, flowering, and dying off by the end of that season. While they can self-seed and potentially grow in subsequent years, they do not "come back" as perennials do. If conditions are favorable, their seeds may germinate the following year, but the original plants do not survive past their first season.
