Is it safe to pierce cheeks?

My mom got her cheeks pierced so she would have dimples,but they swelled up so bad,she almost had to get surgery. I don't know how your body would react to it,though. I don't wanna delete the previous post bc its a good example but, its still very possible to have a safe reaction to cheek piercings. I know a few people who have them and they can be quite annoying at first. They act up more than other piercings which is understandable bc of the movement. They're a big commitment so do your research!
