What did many westerners think that a skin color other than their own made people?

In the past, people of European descent have usually thought that people who have other skin color than their own, i.e., Africans and Asians, are biologically inferior to themselves. This racist attitude has been largely, but not entirely overcome in recent decades. Also note that European Jews, whose skin color is the same as that of other Europeans, were subjected to the most extreme racial hatred of any ethnic group, so it is not always about skin color.
