Who is the air speed record holder?

The current airspeed record for conventional (non-rocket) aircraft is held by the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird. The record was set on on 28 July 1976 by Capt. Eldon W. Joersz and Maj. George T. Morgan when they reached a speed of 3,529.6 km per hour.
