Lemurs are primates endemic to the island of Madagascar and some smaller surrounding islands, including the Comoros (where they were likely introduced by humans).

On Madagascar, they are found in forests, which are mostly clustered around the periphery of the island. Much of the middle of the island has been deforested, apart from a few protected areas.
