The two-stroke cycle is a type of internal combustion engine operation that completes a power cycle in just two strokes of the piston, or one crankshaft revolution. It combines the intake and compression phases into one stroke and the power and exhaust phases into another. As the piston moves up, it compresses the fuel-air mixture while simultaneously drawing in a new mixture from the crankcase. When the piston reaches the top, the spark plug ignites the mixture, causing an explosion that pushes the piston down, expelling exhaust gases and completing the cycle.
