What speeds should you shift up or down on a motorcycle?

Speed has little to do with it. When the engine labours, change down. When the engine races, change up. If you are manoevring at walking pace you should be in 1st or 2nd. At a give way or a stop sign you should be in a gear that allows you full control and the ability to pull away at an appropriate rate.
