What is the wire that connects the PC and monitor?

if you have Windows Vista, there are three. the Giant blue one connects the visual, the black one with this symbol: ((.))<- connects the audio, i think, and I'm not exactly sure what the last one is, but it's symbol looks like this: ~ what is that one?
