Why was A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens published?

Dickens felt that it gave a message regarding the suffering of the poor and the classes that made money from them. In addition he wanted to highlight the ignorance of the higher classes who did not believe that there was an issue of server poverty in Britain at the time
