Why have cars been getting safer throughout their history?

Quite simply, to help save lives. would you drive a car on the highway in a open metal seat with no seat belts doors a windscreen or roof. what would happen if you crashed? wouldn't like to see the end result.

Also, consumer demand helps sell cars that have Excellent safety features.
