205 gti starts and then cuts out?

Fuel pressure problem, faulty fuel pump or filter. Check fuel delivery by releasing fuel hose where it enters the engine. Hold the end of the hose in a bottle and have an assistant start the engine. You should get a nice stream of gasoline pouring down the hose. If not, the fuel pressure is too low, check fuel filter and pump.
