Can I use powder laundry detergent to rid my lawn of insects?

Too impractical. Just go to a hardware store in gardening, get some of those pesticide granules for lawns, a cheap whirlybird spreader (same section most likely) fill the hopper and crank em out. When you water they dissolve over a week or 2 and kill bugs. Many pros treat landscaping this way.
