How do Norias work?

Norias are huge wheels next to a stream of river which have buckets on the end the wheel moves what ever way the water is going. While it spins the buckets at each end picks up water and gets in each bucket it takes the water to top of the an aqueducts and water reaches where it is needed in farms and other places.
