it means NOTHING. stop looking for meaning in all tattoos. many tattoos are simply whimsical and fun or aesthetically pleasing. they don't all mean things. try asking the person it's on what it means to them.

---UPDATED RESPONSE:

Actually this person is cleary wrong....they do symbolize something. While many tattoo's are gotten by people simply on a whim or for an "aesthetically pleasing" fashion marker, this is not the majority (for smart people at least).

Take the swastika for an obvious example....If you did not know its modern day implications of racism, hatred, nazi socialism, intolerance...etc...one might be initially attracted to its modest geometrical construction (and in fact it meant something very different before the Nazi's adopted it). Many tribal and Celtic symbols are very similar in this way, and thus makes them initially appealing for tattoos, i.e., people can attribute their own person justifications for what their tattoo (the geometrical unions) 'symbolizes' to them, in MOST cases.

The dual star tattoo's, or "stars above the heart", is in modern day times most commonly associated with eastern European crime family markings. They are an expression of commitment and submission, and are often accompanied by stars tatted on the knee caps as well. There are other representations of this symbol as well, more ancient, which I don't know much about, so if anyone else does, please contribute....

The stars on the knee caps would symbolize that the person with these tattoos has never been brought to their knees and or bows to no authority.

Bottom line is, know what your tattoo means to you......but also know it's etymology.

Too add to that, if you see the movie "Eastern Promises" Viggro Mortensen in that has starts on his shoulders and knees. The ones on his shoulder symbolize that he has taken responsibility for the crime family and the ones on his knees are for not kneeling before authority.

Cheers
