The predictions were very partisan, as might be expected: one Republican pollster said Mr. Romney would win in a landslide, and a Fox News commentator (Dick Morris) agreed, predicting more than 300 electoral votes for Mitt Romney. Conversely, while Democrats were more cautious, many pollsters (for example Public Policy Polling) noted that Mr. Obama had slight leads in the swing states. A neutral pollster, Nate Silver of the New York Times (who predicted the totals very accurately in 2008) asserted that Mr. Obama would win most of the swing states and thus win the electoral college: he predicted about 332 electoral votes for Mr. Obama. In the end, Predictions favoring Mitt Romney turned out to be quite incorrect: Obama received exactly what Nate Silver said-- 332 electoral votes, to win re-election.
