To take a palpated blood pressure, first locate the radial pulse on the patient's wrist and inflate the blood pressure cuff until the pulse disappears, noting the pressure at that point. Then, deflate the cuff and inflate it again, this time to a level above where you expect the systolic pressure to be, and slowly release the pressure while feeling for the return of the pulse. The systolic pressure is recorded at the point the pulse reappears. Document the result as "palpated BP" followed by the systolic reading, for example, "Palpated BP: 120 mmHg."
