How do you check to see if engine is firing?

You can do of a dew different ways by sound or sight start the van and remove the plug wires one by one and listen for changes in the sound of the motor or you can remove the plugs from the block and keep the wire connected to see if you have spark that way..just use insulated plyers when doing this to avoid shock
