If you have an automatic transmission, the fluid is added through the tube that holds the dip stick to check the fluid level. Make sure you check the level with the engine at operating temperature while the engine is running, the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the gear selector in park. Also take care to only add enough fluid to bring it to the full mark on the dip stick. Too much fluid can cause foaming and transmission problems.
If the vehicle has a manual transmission, there is a plug on the side of the transmission that you have to remove. You add fluid until it starts to run out of the hole and then reinstall the plug.
