Answer

A lot of the reason for this overflow may be the temperature of where your pre-installed battery was stored and that of its final home inside your car. As you may know, water expands when it gets warm, so this may result in an overflow. You should be able to correct levels by adding distilled water until the water level is about 1/8 of an inch above the cells. Avoid using tap water whenever possible.

Answer

Have your alternator and charging system checked to be safe. Faulty voltage regulators can cause overcharging which causes your battery to boil out it's liquid. Not cool. By the way, the ooze can be acidic, avoid contact with skin and clothing.
