Why are some of the boys so willing to become part of jacks tribe in lord of the flies?

During the confrontation on the causeway leading to castle rock Jack ordered his tribe to grab Samneric and tie them up. Later Sameric told Ralph that they were made to join the tribe and that Jack and Roger had, "hurt us--"
