Sure you can. Economically it makes no sense unless the premium is being paid by employers or anyone but you. Most people don't even realize how much their health insurance costs. They only know what portion they pay if any. As for having two policies at the same time, they each pay a part of any claims based on the Wording within the policies describing how they coordinate the benefits. What is not legal is to try and make a profit on any claims. The way it works is that one is the primary and pays as it would whether or not there were two policies, the secondary policy then pays the out of pocket part left over. Read your policy. As a matter of full disclosure, I own and operate a small Independent Insurance Agency in Georgia and have for 22 years. I also was an agent for a direct writer insurance company for 3 years prior.
