There are not many threats to the Panther Chameleon compared to other chameleon species. The main threats to the species are from the wildlife pet trade and habitat loss. They are native to Madagascar but only live in the Lowland forest areas. These areas have not yet been majorly affected by deforestation but is under threat.
The Panther Chameleon is listed in Appendix II in CITIES and therefore exportation of the species is limited. Only 2000 individuals can be removed per year to help sustain the wild population.
